Crooked teeth or bite issues such as over-jut, overbite and under bite can lead to serious complications for your teeth and jaws. Fortunately, orthodontics treatment can re-align and straighten your teeth to bring them into proper alignment and spacing. Chatham-Kent Dental provides orthodontics services including braces and Invisalign aligners.
Whether you use braces or aligners the method of treatment is basically the same. Orthodontic appliances gently apply pressure to your teeth and jawbones to slowly bring the teeth into a proper alignment. The process usually takes approximately two years but a longer treatment period may be required depending on the amount of correction needed.
What is the difference between braces and Invisalign?
Metal braces are the traditional orthodontic treatment. They are attached to your teeth and use elastics and wires to reposition your teeth over time. Braces cannot be removed and need to be kept clean to avoid plaque and food buildup.
Invisalign aligners are plastic appliances that reposition your teeth in the same way as braces. Unlike braces, aligners can be removed while you eat or brush your teeth. You will need to return to our office on a regular basis (usually every two weeks) for a new set of aligners. This is because each new set is slightly different to gently guide your teeth into their new positions.
Whether you use braces or aligners you may need to wear a retainer as the last stage of your treatment. The retainer holds your teeth in place while your bone tissue heals and adapts to the new alignments.
